Episode 132 - The Yamaha SG-3000

In the 1970s both Gibson and Fender were having difficulty maintaining the quality that had gotten them that far. Perhaps this was why so many brands began copying their designs; maybe they thought they could do it better. And some did. The specific legal action Gibson took against Ibanez has come to be more broadly understood as the “lawsuit era.” Enter Yamaha. They wanted to incorporate the best ideas they had been developing since the mid-60s into something new and original, yet still familiar to players more used to the big names. Culminating in the exquisite SG-3000 Custom, the SG Series fit the bill.
